THE MYSTERIOUS MR. MATSUZAKA STRIKES AGAIN
Daisuke had his second best start of the season last night, going 8 strong innings, only walking 2, and yielding 4 hits. All 4 of those hits were singles. He allowed no runs.
He's made 8 starts this season. He's failed to make it out of the 5th inning 3 times. He's pitched into the 7th inning 4 times. His 5-2 record and 4.59 ERA suggest an average pitcher, but he's far from that. Stellar one day, atrocious the next. And I don't think anyone has any good idea as to why.
Whatever, a win is a win. And these are the kinds of wins this team was supposedly built for. The Sox knocked in 3 runs with non-hits (2 sac-flies, and a fielder's choice). They were 1/13 with runners in scoring position.
Victor Martinez was 2 for 4 with one of those RBI sac-flies. He's 23 for 46 (that's .500, moron) since May 19th.
David Huff (6.08 ERA) vs. Tim Wakefield tonight. So expect much more offense.
